Guilty Pleasures

I have found that I am no longer able to listen to Judas Priest in public. I can't resist singing out loud and gesticulating wildly as Mr. Halford did. Thanks for listening. I knew you guys would understand.

Much to the dismay of my co-workers, I can't STOP singing Hall and Oates songs all day long, especially I Can't Go For That (No Can Do). I'm a sick man and need help.

lFor crying out loud ya'll are guilty pleasure lightweights!

nothing to feel guilty about for liking Hall and Oates, let alone The Beatles

I love--and I do mean love--Jesus Christ Superstar.... not the "Ted Neely shrieking" movie version... (it's okay, but not the best version) but the classic "brown cover with gold writing Ian Gillian as Jesus" verson

        now THAT'S a guilty pleasure

funny thing, I hate all the other Sir Tim Weber garbage...

LOL I was just replying to the posts just prior to mine... didn't start at the top...

nothing wrong with liking The Priest. I have two of their albums and "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" is my favorite short film

I know it's Andrew Lloyd Weber... but it's also Tim Rice hence... Tim Weber

Angelboots - Tim Weber - makes sense to me! When I was a kid I used to put on that JCS record and sing along to each side of both discs all the while doing an angst-filled interpretive dance to it! No shame there, Mama! That's a great piece of work! (the movie version does NOT compare.)

                Ok here it goes -
I know all the words to the first Spice Girls album.
                Celine Dion makes me cry.
Sheryl Crowe's Greatest Hits cd has practically been worn out on my cd player.
I love Madonna's music even though her lyrics are kinda weak. I have almost all her stuff from the beginning.
I have a major weakness for a lot of Hip-Hop/R&B top 40 type stuff.

                  Lord.....(Jon Lord).....

Now I'm going to unbury a copy of 'Stained Class" (yes, Class-not glass..) and the live Diamonds and Rust cover.

The Ian-in-the-Garden scene continues to be one of the coolest musical moments, post '60.

I love Madonna's early stuff, you know, the Lucky Star, Get Into The Groove era. Later on she seemed to get too overwraught though.

Despite myself, I find myself singing along to Hot 97 sometimes. I loved last year's hit, Chicken Noodle Soup (soda on the side!)

Let it be known...there ain't nothing wrong with diggin on the Beatles.

But I think I've got you all beat here...I like listening to Peter Cetera...remeber the song Daddy's Girl? The song from Three Men and Baby? Yeah, that one!

                    Oh me!

Yeah, what's up with The Beatles posts???? The Beatles made great music.

                      Now, guitly pleasures....

Neil Diamond, Partridge Family, Tom Jones,
The Brady Bunch records (this is GUILTY).

Brady Bunch are a guiltyh pleasure for sure... and the Partridges too...

but there is no shame in liking Neil Diamond... and there is absolutely no shame in liking Tom Jones... Janis Joplin called him "The Voice"

hmm, well to clarify, i didn't really mean to say the beatles were a guilty pleasure. i was just relaying the fact that yellow submarine on mental repeat is kinda maddening. hence the sick man reference, borrowed from the previous post.

tom jones is cool. neil diamond is kinda ok. janis joplin i think is kinda overrated.
                          incidentally.

There ain't nothing wrong with any of those pleasures Eric. Matter of fact, I've listened to all of those artists just this week as I was cleaning up.

My fave? "I'll Meet You Half Way" by the P Family!

I'll give you the Partridge Family... they had some nice pop songs... I wouldn't hide the fact that I liked them.

but The Brady Bunch? uh, that is clearly a guilty pleasure!!

For me the guilty pleasure is certain big, over-the-top, lavishly orchestrated disco tunes. Stuff like Boystown Gang's 'Can't Take My Eyes Off of You'. I never listened to the stuff when it was current, but I get a kick out of it now.

Abba is cool and yeah, I agree Joplin is kinda overrated. I was just pointing out that most people tend to give her a lot of cred and she thought Tom Jones was kick ass, so it's probably not anything to feel guilty about

I like Tom Jones better than Janis Joplin actually...

Joplin In Concert was the first cassette I bought. Love it for the energy, if nothing else...

When I need to come back down...way down....I reach for a couple of...um...folkies out of the SF performance scene. Ginny Reilly and David Maloney. Kitchenscrubbinbreadbakin music. They still have a monster following all up and down the coast- selling out small theaters on a regular basis. It's all about harmony and a little self-effacing burned-out-stud humor from Maloney.

I was wondering the same thing. They got a good review in a recent NY Times, which still left me think they were bubble gum, but then I heard them on the tragically hip local alternative public radio station. Now I don't know what to think. Quick! Someone tell me if they are worthy of my appreciation!

For sure for sure! In my book when you mix a brillant sense of humor with folks that rock you can not go wrong. The songs are always addictive and they really have their own distinct sound. No other band comes to mind immediatley if I had to describe them.

<<nothing to feel guilty about for liking Hall and Oates, let alone The Beatles >>

Seconded! This very instant "Adult Education" is jeering at top volume through my headset. Damn, it's glorious! Philly soul & new wave didn't get to cross-pollinate much and the rhythm guitar and drum parts ROCK!

On songs like "Adult Education," "You Make My Dreams" and "Rich Girl," the comparison to Lennon & McCartney is spot-on.

An index of how good they were- play the Mike Oldfield original of "Family Man" and then H & O's. Yikes!

<<In my book when you mix a brillant sense of humor with folks that rock you can not go wrong.>>

That's why a band like Sparks still does brilliant albums four decades into the biz.

.....and Next Of Kihn! You Bay Area babies might still appreciate the endless noodlie riff of Surrender...stretched out when I saw Greg and band go over great at the Seattle Paramount with Jim Basnight opening. Chinatown is a great riff, also.

God... Basnight. Seattle Pop's endless stage production......still playing ski resorts all over the West.....

I have a serious pop sweet tooth. Lamey-happy-dancey music? I'm so there!
Right now I am listening to Vitamin C and I swear to GOD some of these lyrics could have been on a New Kids On The Block Album!
I do like cheese, even though I'm Vegan!
(Not to rip on NKOTB, I saw them with my gay roomie in '89 in Oaktown - must say it actually WAS a good show - they were "hangin' tough fer sure!)
