Go see it.... now. Not later, now!!!
Fantastic!! I was riveted for the entire 2 hours. This could so easily have been botched, but the whole thing fell into the right hands. And the role fell to the right actor. Kudos to you, Sam Riley.

Re: Control
Wed, November 14, 2007 - 12:54 PMIt is the story of a young lad named Ian Curtis, who lives in a dreary English town, listens to Bowie and Roxy Music, sees the Sex Pistols, joins a band as a singer, gets married too young, finds success as singer, has a child, cheats on his wife,is diagnosed with epilepsy, has a few emotional breakdowns, watches a Werner Herzog film, listens to Iggy Pop,then....well...I won't give away the ending..... -

Sat, November 17, 2007 - 1:09 PMyeah, the 1st thing i thought of when i saw the title was joy division.
so, i may or may not see the movie, but i've heard ian curtis committed suicide by standing on a block of ice w/a rope around his neck & waiting for the ice to melt. is this true? -

Re: Control
Sun, November 18, 2007 - 11:12 AMhe did hang himself, the movie did not go into the details of how, it was in the kitchen, and they got that right... they implied, but did not show, another method for doing it.... one that did not involve ice
to kill himself the way you describe, he would have to be 100% positive that noone was going to walk in on him for as long as it took him to stand there til he couldn't stand on tippy toes anymore... at least 12 hours I'd imagine. And since he was at his own apt, seems to me he'd be worried his wife would be very likely to come home before he accomplished the task. Therefore, it doesn't seem like he'd chose to go the ice route, though it's fittingly dramatic and not impossible... I just don't know
I have a couple friends who don't even like joy division who saw the movie and loved it--in fact they both want to see it again, in the theaters-- so, even if you don't see it at the theater, you should definitely see it when it comes out on DVD.
I will also be seeing it a second time on the big screen -

Re: Control
Sun, November 18, 2007 - 2:33 PMso it's still out, then, i take it? ok, maybe i'll check it out.
i didn't know he was married. personally i don't believe in marriage, but still, it makes me lose some respect for the guy, knowing he'd leave his corpse hanging in the kitchen for his wife to come home to. that's a shitty thing to do to someone.
in the end i don't really give a fuck how he did it, i think suicide is lame. -

Re: Control
Sun, November 18, 2007 - 7:04 PMoh, you will lose a lot of respect for him when you see the movie... not because he kills himself, but because he was quite the wanker, as they say, when he was alive.... But, it's still a great movie, really well done... and very revealing if you like the band at all
suicide is sad, tragic really.... but, forgive me for saying so, only people who haven't been in the sort of despair that drives people to suicide in the first place could call it lame....
to be in so much pain that killing yourself seemed like the only way to escape it? Tragic, yes... lame, no... I have several friends who committed suicide.... I miss them terribly, I wish they could have found a way to hang on, but I don't think of any of them as even slightly lame
Suicide is pretty misunderstood... its not lame, it's not selfish, etc etc All the things you always here people say, just not the case.
